RMHC Partners with Rainbow Kidz

Ameer Tyree

Rainbow Kidz is a pediatric grief program based out of Iredell County in North Carolina. The program helps children deal with the loss of people close to them. On Wednesday, November 29, Ronald McDonald House Charities donated $5,000 to the program. After the donation by RMHC, there was a presentation at N.B. Mills elementary school in which the five of the six children in the program at the school gathered together to accept the donation check. Donations to the program have helped provide counseling to 205 children in 25 different schools since September. Leigh Ann Darty, the director of the program, has strived to continue to grow the program in order to affect the lives of as many children as possible. The loss of a parent or sibling can drastically affect the personality, behavior and academic performance of a child. 55 percent of the children in the program have lost a parent or sibling. So far, 95 percent of participants in the program have seen grade, attendance and behavior improvement after the completion of the 12 week Rainbow Kidz program. RMHC is dedicated to providing assistance to children and families in need whether they are a part of the Ronald McDonald charity operations or not. We hope that we can continue to donate to helpful causes like this to change to help kids adapt to the loss of family and friends in the near future
