RMHC has Holiday Spirit

Image
Ameer Tyree Giving Tuesday took place on Tuesday, November 28, and the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia did not hesitate to give all they could to good causes this holiday season. Giving Tuesday is part of an effort many organizations make to give charitable donations to get the season of giving started. The Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia shelled out over $13,000 this year. This Ronald McDonald house makes efforts to reach out to families in need in Virginia that are located more than 25 miles from their location to allow them to stay with them in their time of need. They strive to serve as many families in their community as they can. They celebrated the National Day of Giving by calling up donors from the past to see if they would like to make donations to support those in need during the holidays. Robert Brailsford, a member of the RMHC Board of Trustees, says that they received over $500 in donations within the first 10 minutes of their phone calls. Altho...

RMHC Partners with Rainbow Kidz

Image
Ameer Tyree Rainbow Kidz is a pediatric grief program based out of Iredell County in North Carolina. The program helps children deal with the loss of people close to them. On Wednesday, November 29, Ronald McDonald House Charities donated $5,000 to the program. After the donation by RMHC, there was a presentation at N.B. Mills elementary school in which the five of the six children in the program at the school gathered together to accept the donation check. Donations to the program have helped provide counseling to 205 children in 25 different schools since September. Leigh Ann Darty, the director of the program, has strived to continue to grow the program in order to affect the lives of as many children as possible. The loss of a parent or sibling can drastically affect the personality, behavior and academic performance of a child. 55 percent of the children in the program have lost a parent or sibling. So far, 95 percent of participants in the program have seen grade, attendance an...

Lights of Love at The Ronald McDonald House November 29, 2017 Madeleine Gabbard Thinking back to the original vision that began 27 years ago, Lights of Love will be held once again at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas. Lights of Love is a festive event for children and families. At this event they are able to experience holiday fun together with their friends and families. It’s a magical moment when thousands of sparkling lights suddenly illuminate the Ronald McDonald House and its big, bright holiday tree. This is a good time for families to get to relax together, and spend the holiday’s enjoying the lights and decorations with their entire families. The children love this special event, and it has been a tradition for twenty-seven years. Ronald McDonald will be there, as well as carolers. Max the Dog Visits Ronald McDonald House November 29, 2017 Madeleine Gabbard A golden retriever named Max, stopped by a Ronald McDonald House in Atlanta, GA. The children loved Max, and got to enjoy time with him when they were not in the hospital receiving treatments. It was a great bonding experience for the children to get to spend time with an animal. Max's canine assistants instructor, Kristen LaFevers, said it was a great experience for him and that he blew her away with how gentle, aware and sweet he was with all of the families. Max has been trained to greet people nicely, and is aware of what a person’s physical situation is. “Thank you for bringing joy to our families,” Atlanta Ronald McDonald Charities said on its Facebook page Thursday. Cancer Survivor Gives Back

Cancer Survivor Gives Back November 28, 2017 - Claire Butler We love seeing children getting better and giving back! Last year Carly Allphin's family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia for a few months while she received treatment for Ewing Sarcoma. Carly had a total of nine tumors throughout her body but now she is happily cancer free! Carly recently found herself thinking about all the other kids she went through treatment with and weren't able to get better as quickly as she did. She also thought about the positive things like having her family close by and wanted a way to give back to the ones who helped her through it all. To say thank you, Carly and her family presented the RMHC with a check for $630. And thanks to this donation a family can now stay there for only $10 a night for a little more than two months! PLM: "Give more than you take"

Image
PLM: "Give more than you take" November 28, 2017 - Claire Butler  The Purple Land Management's philosophy is "give more than you take."   Last year PLM's Fort Worth donated over 100 pounds of food to the local food bank.  This year they decided to continue giving back to their community by donating to different organizations each quarter. The first quarter they chose the Ronald McDonald House.  Their goal is to collect any supplies RMHC needs for the families staying there. PLM recognizes all the good that RMHC does for their community by providing a place for families to stay close to the hospitals their child is receiving treatment.  For the full story visit the link below: http://purplelandmgmt.com/tag/ronald-mcdonald-house-plm-gives-back/
